Book Review 1

*Sigh*

THE DREADFUL TIME WHEN YOU HAVE READ EVERY BOOK ON YOUR SHELF. And every other shelf too.

Sooo... I read "A Little Princess and though, "Why not?".

A Little Princess
Frances Hodgson Burnett

A Little Princess is considered a classic, and was published in 1905. It is the heart-warming story of Sara Crewe, the daughter of a rich Indian soldier. She starts at a school owned by the notorious Miss Minchin (remind you of Miss Anakin from Annie... sort of? Without the singing, and orphans... for now ). But disaster strikes: her father dies, and all of the family's money is gone. Miss Minchin forces Sara to become a servant, and treats her terribly. Armed with a vivid imagination and a loving heart, she takes the world full force, making friends along the way. (These include Becky the maid, Lottie the temper queen, Emerngarde the cast out, and Melchisedec the rat)

(I wont say the ending, 'cause you need to read it, but lets say I cried (with joy, don't worry!).)

The story is heart-warming and encouraging, and proves that even when you are the lowest life form in today's society, you can still be "A Little Princess" at heart. Sara had no worldly possessions except a doll called Emily and a dark, dank attic, but still made her own life bright and interesting. She is a perfect example of how our attitude should be towards our lives.
This book is perfect for girls of all ages, but may need modernising (?) for younger children, as the wording can be confusing.

You can get a cheap copy from most places, especially charity shops. My copy is from when my mum was a kid :)

Anne-Marie Conway Interview

Thanks for taking part, loved you answers :)

1) How long have you known you wanted to write?
I've always loved writing but I first thought about writing a novel when my first son was a baby and I was off work and suddenly had lots of time at home. So it was about 10 years ago.
2) Who is the person who inspired you most?
This is a really difficult person. Do you mean writing person? Or just in general? I'm not sure I know the answer to this one, but I have read loads of books which I've found inspiring, especially books for children.
3) What's your most embarrassing moment?
I can't tell you my MOST embarrassing moment because it's a little bit too grown up, but I did wet myself on stage once when I was singing as an 8 year old. It's because the act we were doing went completely wrong and I was laughing so much I couldn't hold it in!!!!
4) What is your favourite flavour crisp?
 Ready Salted
5) Jeans or skirt? (I know, kind of random)
Definitely jeans although I struggle to find a pair I really love.
6) What music are you into?
I LOVE musicals and although Les Miserables has been my favourite for years and years it's recently been taken over by Matilda! I can't stop singing the songs and it's driving my family MAD!!!
7) Who is your favourite author?
My favourite author at the moment is Jandy Nelson who wrote The Sky is Everywhere. It's such a beautiful book.
8) What is your proudest moment?
Do you mean as an author? Well it has to be when I first got short listed in a competition. It was the Times/Chicken House competition and it was the first time I'd had the slightest indication from anyone else that I actually could write. I literally put down the phone and screamed!!!!! I'd been dreaming of that phone call for so long I couldn't believe it was really happening.

Thanks again! Love the books :)
